Privacy

This site is run by me, Kristian Partl. I am the controller for the personal data described here. Contact: kristian@partl.dev.
Reading the site
The site itself sets no cookies.
To see which pages get read, I use Cloudflare Web Analytics. A small script on every page reports the page address (without the query string), the page you came from, your browser and device type, your country and how fast the page loaded. It stores nothing in your browser - no cookies, no local storage - and Cloudflare does not use your IP address or browser to fingerprint you. I see only totals, not individual visitors. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in knowing what people read (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
It is served by Cloudflare. To deliver the pages and protect them from attacks, Cloudflare processes technical data of every request, such as your IP address and browser. When its bot protection inspects a request, Cloudflare can set a short-lived security cookie (__cf_bm, or cf_clearance after a challenge). It is used only to tell people from bots, not to track you.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, I store your email address and the time you subscribed and confirmed. I use it for one thing: sending you an email when a new post goes up.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You give it by submitting the form and clicking the link in the confirmation email.
- Who processes it: Buttondown sends the emails for me as a processor. Your address is stored and processed in the United States. The transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses in Buttondown’s data processing agreement. Their subprocessors are listed here.
- Tracking: open and click tracking are switched off. I do not see who opened an email or clicked a link.
- How long: until you unsubscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, or you can write to me and I will remove you.
Writing to me
If you email kristian@partl.dev, the message is forwarded to my mailbox through Cloudflare Email Routing. I keep it as long as the conversation needs it, on the basis of my legitimate interest in replying (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your rights
You can ask me for access to your data, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to its processing, and to get it in a portable form. You can withdraw your consent to the newsletter at any time; it does not affect what happened before. Write to kristian@partl.dev.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU country where you live or work.
