About
The first thing strangers used was a Counter-Strike map I put on the Steam Workshop in 2017. Seventeen of them ended up with around 720,000 subscribers between them.
I did not learn much about level design from that. I learned that shipping a thing is a different job from building it, and that the second job is the longer one.
That is still how I work. My days go into internal company systems: automation, integrations, and increasingly AI assistants that have to survive contact with real users rather than with a demo. A lot of it lives in the Atlassian stack, because that is where the service desks and the internal processes are, but the stack is the environment rather than the point.
The work usually takes one of four shapes:
- AI assistants over internal systems, taken from proof of concept to something people actually use
- Automating service desks and the processes around them
- Bridges between systems that were never meant to talk to each other
- Migrations, and keeping alive what already runs
Outside of that I build my own things. BLE Scale Sync reads Bluetooth scales that have no interest in talking to anything else, and puts the measurements where I want them. nexuri2mqtt does the same for a flat full of meters. screamer types what I say into whatever window is open. It is the same instinct every time: a closed system, and data that would be useful somewhere else. Some of that work is heading towards being a product rather than a tool, and this site is where it will show up first.
Most writing about AI stops at the proof of concept. I write about the part that comes after, because that is the part I actually do.
